Since hours we’ve been waiting for a call from the airport. My mother/wife and brother/son arrived onboard yesterday, and their luggage is lost. We want to leave today because there is only a small weather window to sail south-west from A Coruna. 11am it the luggage was supposed to be here. 3:30pm and the driver finally arrives. Setting sail for a new anchorage. Finally some silence after the busy city we thought. But the birds had other plans and tried to keep us awake. Due to our long and stressful day (and seasickness), all of us were exhausted and could sleep despite of the noise.
Hopping from one ria to the other we slowly make our way south. We meet many other sailors with similar plans which is new to us. So far we were the big exception and now we get to share our stories and reasons.
After two weeks we reach Portugal. Fast we learn the basic rules. Hola is still hello, but bye is now ciao. Oh and spanish people are bad. Also food and drinks are very cheap. A coffee for 70 cents was a first timer.
In Porto our family left again and from now on its’s only the two of us. Feels like the adventure is starting only now. The realisation kicks hard. We are not only gone for the summer but for another year. Crazy! So excited for all the new places that are ahead of us, waiting to be explored.
